July Newsletter

Hello again, I hope this finds you all healthy and well. Another month has come and gone again already! For those who are local and interested, there’s still time to sign up for my classes at Lifelong Learning. I will be teaching my Coptic Bookbinding class again on Wednesdays, September 14 – 28th and my paint making class will be on Wednesdays, October 5 – 19th.

Thank you to all those who provided feedback on tutorials and online classes, I really appreciate it. I am currently working on a tutorial, and I hope it will be ready by the end of next month. I’m excited to share it with you when it’s done. It’s been fun learning more about photoshop and in design as this project progresses. I still need to look more into platforms, etc. for online courses but I hope to be creating some online courses very soon!

I’m still working on painting projects while working on the tutorials and classes. It's been a busy summer so far and I hope to have lots to show for it and to show you all before long.

Thank you as always for your interest and support, please stay safe and healthy!

Newsletter Catch Up

Hello again, I hope this finds you all healthy and well. I’m excited to share that I will be teaching two classes in the University of Utah’s Lifelong Learning Program during their summer term.

The classes I will be teaching are Making Paint and Painting with Gold. In Making Paint, students will learn about the history of pigments and will get to make watercolor, egg tempera and glair paint. In Painting with Gold, students will learn how to make “shell gold”, a type of paint made from gold (or other metal) leaf. After making shell gold, students will be able to use it in their own small painting, based on images from historical illuminated manuscripts.

I learned how to make paint from Dr. David Cranswick and shell gold from Farkhondeh Ahmadzadeh and Dr. Irina Bradley at the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts. I’ve loved being able to make my own paints and shell gold and I’m excited to have the chance to share these great traditions.

Thank you for your interest and support! Please keep safe and healthy!

Hello, I’m back with more to share with you all.

First off I’m happy to share that as of today, registration is open for my Fall semester classes at Lifelong Learning. I will be teaching my Coptic Bookbinding class again on Wednesdays, September 14 – 28th and I will be teaching my paint making class on Wednesdays, October 5 – 19th. I’m excited to teach these classes to a local audience but I’m also looking into creating some tutorials and online classes that can be enjoyed by people near and far. I’d love to have your input as I’m planning, designing and creating these tutorials and classes. If there is a format or topic (like geometry drawings, paint making, bookbinding, etc.) that you would especially like to see please respond to this email and let me know.

I’m also excited to share that I will be having a joint show with artist Meriem Wakrim at Salt Lake Community College, May 11 - June 22, 2023. Mark your calendars and get excited to see a great show!

February Newsletter

Hello again, I hope this finds you well in spite of the chaos and horrors taking place in so many parts of the world. Please look after your mental health and hopefully we can all find some ways, big or small, to bring some goodness, positivity, and/or peace to the world.

I have a few things that I’m excited to share with you this month. The first is that I will be teaching some classes through the University of Utah’s Lifelong Learning program. The first class I will be teaching is a Coptic bookbinding class. I have loved bookbinding for years and I’m excited to be able to share my love for this craft. As of writing this, the class is currently full, however, if you’re interested you should check back or join the waiting list just in case. It's likely that this class will be offered again in the future. I will also be teaching some other classes in the future but I will share more about those when their registration opens.

I’m also excited to share that I’ve added some new items to my Etsy shop. I’m now offering some hand ground pigments and handmade watercolors made from those pigments. I hope to expand my pigment and watercolor offerings soon, check back at the shop to find out what they are.

Thank you as always for your interest and support!

Newsletter

Hello, welcome to the first issue of my artist newsletter! I will be sending this newsletter out every few months

with updates about me and my art.

This past June I completed a Master's degree show Traditional Art from The Prince's Foundation School of

Traditional Arts (PFSTA), in London. For my final project, I focused on Western European, medieval manuscript

illumination and I chose to illuminate Christian scriptural accounts of the creation. See the full series here

Our degree show was held at the Garrison Chapel, Chelsea Barracks. Due to pandemic restrictions, we also had

an Online Celebration (my presentation is at about 14:20). Our class also had the honor of having the school’s

patron, HRH Prince Charles, visit our show.

My classmates and I were given the opportunity to be a part of START.art, a new curated online platform.

I’m excited to be joining the ARCH-HIVE for their holiday show at Writ and Vision on December 3, 2021

from 6-9 pm. If you’re local you’re invited to come and enjoy, it should be a great show. If you come, please

wear a mask as Covid precautions will be strongly enforced for everyone’s safety.

Thank you for your interest and support! I hope you enjoy whatever holidays you may be celebrating this

season. Please keep healthy and safe and have a happy new year!
