February Newsletter

Hello again,

It’s been busy month. My show, Illuminating Creation, opened earlier this month. Thanks to all those who were able to attend the opening reception or come to see the show at other times. If you’re in Salt Lake City or the surrounding areas, you can still see the show until March 18th. The works in this show are for sale, please contact me for a price list if you are interested.

I recently finished teaching my latest Coptic Bookbinding session and I’m excited to announce that I will be teaching a new Bookbinding class for the Summer semester. I will be teaching the “sweet” binding, developed by my teacher Natalie Malan. There’s also still time to sign up for my Geometric Drawing class, where we will learn fundamentals of drawing with a ruler and a compass. In the class we will draw polygons, regular and semi-regular grids, and draw and color or paint a final project. If you or anyone you know in the greater Salt Lake City area would be interested, please pass the information on.

Manuscript gesso prototype test.

There are many projects that are currently in the works, but I’m excited to share that I am currently perfecting a recipe for manuscript gesso (also know as paper gesso or illumination gesso), the gesso used to create raised gilding. Once I’m satisfied with my recipe and results, I will be selling disc or buttons of dried gesso which can be reconstituted for raised gilding projects. I’ve been researching lots of historic and contemporary recipes in preparation for this project. If you are interested in purchasing gesso buttons (which will come with instructions for reconstituting and applying) please respond to this message and I will send you updates and early notification when it becomes available.

Thank you for your continued interest and support!
